Úna Kavanagh is an artist, actor, sculptor, writer, teacher, director and artistic collaborator... having studied with an inspirational teacher in ballyfermot senior college her portfolio was accepted to the national college of art & design. she moved straight into second year of a b.a. in craft design working in glass, ceramics and metals.
Following a visit to paris where she saw the work of auguste rodin, she was inspired to move into the medium of sculpture completing her master's in ceramic sculpture and has continued to work in ceramics, bronze and on canvas ever since. exhibitions include royal hibernian academy annual exhibition, sculpture in context, oireachtas, and r.d.s. craft exhibition where she received the royal dublin society decorative and architectural ceramics certificate of merit."once upon a time" is her largest exhibition to date and is the result of fifteen years work through a variety of mediums.
The inspiration for this project came from a wide variety of social issues; man's inhumanity; war; famine; the fragile earth; alchemy; indigenous cultures; rite and passage and hope and renewal. the final part of the exhibition was an illustrated fable and animated film created and produced by Úna.
